Romney: “not very much” income = $374,000/year
Romney on his income taxes: “What’s the effective rate that I’ve been paying? It’s probably closer to the 15 percent rate than anything, because my last ten years, I’ve - my income comes overwhelmingly from investments…I got a little bit of income from my book, but I gave that all away. And then I get speakers fees from time to time, but not very much.”
How much is “not very much,” you might wonder?
According to the Democratic National Committee, in 2010 Romney’s speaker fee income was north of $374,000.
That’s right. That $374,000 is “not very much” to Romney, since the great majority of his income is in the form of capital gains on investments, money for which he technically does not work, and on which he pays taxes at a rate of only 15%.
